a colorful world
I spent a nice long weekend of fall break in the middle of nowhere Kansas aka Atchinson, Kansas to visit my friend from high school at Benedictine College. I have gotten so used to Texas weather that I forget other states actually have seasons. I did not bring a sweatshirt or anything thicker than a light fleece and wow that was definitely a harsh wake up to reality stepping out of the airport. I was talking to some of her friends and could ot believe that temperature in Kansas got below 0!! TCU goes crazy anytime it snows and cancels school! I was lucky to have a friend with lots of sweatshirts she was willing to share and a heated house to stay in. It was nice to be forced to do nothing since I did not bring lots of homework and fully be in the moment. I cannot even remember the last time I slept in until noon and I did that without feeling horrible(such a great feeling!) After enjoying a classic college breakfast scrambled from an empty refrigerator, we enjoyed the cool weather and hot coffee on the porch(rent is so much cheaper and the house is huge with a porch!!!). Then, we walked around all of campus which was very beautiful! I am convinced walking is the best way to explore anything and this long walk did not disappoint. There was lots of symbolism behind their campus since it is a Catholic campus that was interesting to learn about! My favorite thing about Kansas was definitely the beautiful trees and the stillness of the town. The colors of fall are something I definitely miss and don’t get to see a lot of in Texas, nor do I usually take the time to observe so maybe it does occur and I am just missing it every year. Along the same note of pretty colors in the world, driving around town and walking around TCU on Sunday, I noticed all the colors and they were all so beautiful that I instinctively whipped out my phone for a picture without thinking of having to do it for class. I love that I have started to appreciate the uniqueness of the sky and nature everywhere you go and on different days and even hours of the day.
